Lyons Stadium
β OpenLyons Stadium, located at 139 West Highland Avenue in Nevada, Missouri, is a historic institution with a rich baseball history. The stadium is named after George T. Lyons, a former pitcher for two major league clubs in the 1920s. Lyons, also known as "Smooth," was a local merchant and served as Vernon County Treasurer. He was a passionate baseball player who played for the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns. Established in 1947 on land owned by the Barton family, Lyons Stadium has been home to numerous teams over the years, including Little League teams, city recreational teams, the Nevada Red Sox, the Nevada Colonels, and the Nevada High School Tigers. The stadium has survived tornadoes and continues to be a beloved sports venue in the community.
