Old Court House Museum
β OpenThe Old Court House Museum, located at 1008 Cherry Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is a must-visit tourist attraction and museum that has been showcasing the cultural history of Vicksburg for 74 years. Originally built in 1858, the building served as Warren County's courthouse until 1939. Thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Eva Whitaker Davis, a Historical Society was formed in 1946 with the goal of transforming the abandoned structure into a museum of local history. Designated as a National Historic Landmark and known as Vicksburg's Crown Jewel, the museum houses a vast collection of historical and cultural artifacts, ranging from pre-Columbian items to Civil War memorabilia. Some highlights include Confederate flags, the tie worn by Jefferson Davis at his inauguration, fine portraits, antique furniture, and the trophy antlers won by the steamboat Robert E Lee in an 1870 race.
