"After dealing with a chronic persistent yeast infection that was and has been debilitating at times in my life my doctor referred me to go to the center for infectious disease. At first I had thought this was way too extreme, but after going through treatment multiple times without ever yielding a result that stuck I had hit desperation point. It took a doctor explaining to me that they just didn't have the laboratory within their family practice to run tests for specific strains of candida - in case I was dealing with some form of azole resistant version and that at the center for infectious disease they would be able to be much more thorough in their testing. It takes about a month to even get an appointment here. So when I finally got in I was hopeful I would be able to deal with a doctor that addresses yeast infection not just from the area you are experiencing symptoms but systemically -- Candidiasis -- overgrowth of the Candida albicans yeast within your body. I brought this and all my other concerns up at the doctors appointment - I mentioned that I and my doctor wanted SPECIFIC testing done for strains of Candida. I also asked about stool testing, and a comprehensive stool analysis, since I was dealing with many of the other symptoms that accompany a Candida overgrowth - i.e. chronic fatigue, increased allergies, brain fog, memory loss, mood swings etc. etc. I wanted to address the systemic issue that was more than likely underlying my yeast infection since I had extended use of antibiotics over the past few years and this is usually a major element that can lead to overgrowth of candida in the gut. The doctor there didn't really have any clue what I was talking about and would not run a stool test because she deemed it unnecessary, stating that she could maybe see if there were colleagues of hers that were familiar with this. JESUS, if a patient is asking you and PAYING YOU, just RUN THE FRIGGIN TEST. I am not made of money and this ONE appointment COST A LOT OF MONEY. So to go there and then be refused to get the very kind of testing I was hoping to have done was not only incredibly defeating, it took away from funds I needed that could be spent on a health care provider who would actually help me to get cured. After communicating that I had had sexual testing done to high heavens and knew there was no risk of std the doctor went ahead and tested me for herpes anyways (another expensive test), and ran a yeast culture. I left at least hopeful they were running a yeast culture that would be detailed and tell me what was going on. However when I received my phone call from the nurse who was reporting results from the test it became clear the doctor had not run a full fungal panel at all, rather she had just run a regular yeast test that I could have had my doctor run for a 30 dollar copay in their clinic. This was a huge waste of my time and money. I cannot even begin to describe how DISRESPECTFUL it is to call that "care" When you have a patient come in and talk to you in an educated manner about their own conditions and ask you for very specific testing after going through a chronic condition that has been ongoing for a year don't just run a simple test their doctor could run at home, they are not at THE CENTER FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE to have a simple test done."

"I went in-person to schedule an appointment and they refused to schedule it for me even though they had an opening within the week because I was scheduled to go out of country the day after the apointment. They cited a guideline that they weren't supposed to schedule people if their trip was in under two weeks. I explained that I had done my research and all I needed was malaria medication, not a vaccination that would require me to come back within 2 weeks for a 2nd dose. She could have scheduled me but she kept saying she didn't know until she finally said that she wouldn't schedule me. My husband called Health Partners and was able to get an appointment just fine, no weird rules. I recommend going to the Health Partners Travel Clinic instead. Their service is usually impeccable. Because my health insurance doesn't cover Health Partners, I am now forced to risk getting malaria. It doesn't make sense for a clinic to refuse to see a patient, risking that the patient gets super sick. Wouldn't it be better to help prevent the patient from getting serious illness if you have the opportunity? Go elsewhere if you have the coverage elsewhere."
