Established in 2010, HAS HEART was founded by a veteran and a designer with the mission to bring communities together through the power of art and design. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, HAS HEART aims to create connections between the military and civilian worlds through coffee and conversations. The institution recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included various city officials and representatives, showcasing the support it has from the local community. With the countdown towards Veterans Day and the Grand Rapids Veterans Day parade, HAS HEART is gearing up for its soft opening. The coffee shop is currently hiring employees to create an atmosphere of connection and camaraderie.

Founded in 1981 by individuals with disabilities, our organization offers personalized support and assistance to ensure accessibility on a personal level. We serve the Kent, Ionia, Montcalm, Mecosta, and Osceola areas, providing occupational therapists to assess equipment needs and support individuals in finding housing. Our unique perspective, with 75% of our board and 56% of our staff being individuals living with disabilities, allows us to offer valuable knowledge and experience to our constituents. We work to eliminate systemic barriers and enhance programs so that people with disabilities can live the self-directed life they choose. Through our Absolutely Accessible Kent program, we offer transit advocacy, education, technical assistance on accessibility, and Universal Design to create a more inclusive community.
