Covering a total of 1,683 acres, this preserve is part of the Last Great Place designated by The Nature Conservancy in 1993 along the northern shore of Lake Huron. Visitors can explore the various sections of the preserve, including the Aldo Leopold Preserve, Sheppard-Hardy, Catherine Seiberling Stewart, Wilderness Bay, and Kathy Bricker Nature Lover Preserve. Access to the preserve is only possible by boat or over the ice in winter, with the most comfortable access to the Aldo Leopold Preserve through Leopold Landing at Duck Bay. The trails within the preserve offer a unique and adventurous experience, with signs marking a roughly 1.25 mile loop trail near Duck Bay. The trails are not regularly maintained, leading visitors through dense conifer forests and seasonally wet regions.
