The name "Shiro" means "Castle" or "White" in Japanese, reflecting the elegant and timeless atmosphere of the restaurant. The mansion, built in 1929 by Charles Rogers for his wife Harriet Thornton, features antebellum architecture and early twentieth-century decor. The White House Manor, as it was originally called, was funded by profits from the White House Milk Company. The grand staircase at the entrance was built with the hope of one day walking a daughter down it on her wedding day. Today, Shiro continues the tradition by hosting weddings, receptions, and special events, while also providing a special dining experience for guests.
