Welcome to your special island getaway on Sugar Island in Sault Ste Marie, MI. Enjoy a short ferry ride and a 20-minute drive to the southern tip of this beautiful island where you'll find our guest resort on the St Mary's River/Lake George with a great view of Canada. Our newly renovated cabins are available for rent by the night, weekend, or week, depending on the time of year.

Our cabins offer all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, with a rustic charm that adds character. The property also includes the Sweet Retreat Store for any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as sweet treats and souvenirs. There are picnic tables, a kids' area, a lily pad pond, swings, a gazebo, deck, dock, fishing, swimming, and more for guests to enjoy. Canoes, bikes, pontoons, and kayaks are also available for rent.

The institution currently has 4 cabins available for rent, each with a unique charm and capacity. From the newly remodeled Krause Kabin that sleeps up to 11, to the cozy Little Middle cabin perfect for a couple's getaway, there is something for everyone. Each cabin is equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay, including kitchen amenities, outdoor seating, and gas grills.

"We absolutely loved our week long stay at the Sweet Retreat, SI and will be going back again! Our family of four was looking for a vacation destination where we could escape from our busy lifestyle and find opportunities to make new memories while exploring nature together. Mission accomplished at Sweet Retreat and Sugar Island! There is so much we enjoyed during our stay, but it all starts with the wonderful hospitality of owners, Jeff and Shari. Both are so personable and always available for any and all of our needs. They really cared about us and our experience. We stayed in the Wilson Klub cabin which offered a "rustic" feel to our get-away, yet had all the modern amenities for a very "non-rustic" family. Our kids loved playing in the water, chasing frogs, roasting smores on the camp fires at night, playing yard games, exploring different parts of the island, watching 1,000 foot ships travel along the river to the Sault Ste. Marie locks, hanging out in the cabin and spending a lot of time at the south island store that is well equipped with lots of snacks. In addition to all of this, my wife and I would highly recommend getting up to watch the beautiful sun rise that come up every morning!"
