Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery
● OpenPendills Creek National Fish Hatchery is a park located in Raco, Michigan, United States, along the scenic Lake Superior shoreline in the Hiawatha National Forest. Visitors can witness the production of over 1 million fish annually, from the egg stage to yearlings depending on the time of year. The surrounding forest offers trails for driving, hiking, and touring, with a beautiful Lake Superior beach nearby. Since 1951, the hatchery has been producing native lake trout for stocking into the Great Lakes, in coordination with various agencies. The lake trout, a freshwater char and main predator in the Great Lakes, was nearly wiped out due to overfishing and sea lamprey infestation, prompting hatchery stocking for restoration efforts. Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery is dedicated to conserving and protecting fish, wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of the American people.
