Riverbend Park
Riverbend Park, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a peaceful oasis along the historic Charles River. Over 40 years ago, Isabella Halsted had the vision to close Memorial Drive on Sundays, creating a serene place for people to enjoy the beauty of the river. Today, visitors from near and far continue to appreciate the closure of Memorial Drive on weekends from April to November. The People for Riverbend Park Trust, founded by Isabella Halsted in 1975, works tirelessly to maintain and beautify the park. Volunteers, including students from the nearby Shady Hill School, plant flowers and shrubs throughout the park, with a special focus on the Sekler playlot. The Trust, headed by Pat Sekler, relies solely on donations and volunteer support.
