Carmelite Chapel in the Northshore Mall
Welcome to the Carmelite Chapel at Northshore Mall, a unique place of worship located at 210 Andover Street, Peabody, Massachusetts. Established on January 28, 1960, by Cardinal Richard Cushing of the Archdiocese of Boston, this was the first Catholic Chapel in the United States to open in a shopping mall, offering a peaceful sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. Our mission, inspired by the vision of St. Therese, is to provide a tranquil space for spiritual reflection and growth. Initially served by the Order of Carmelites, the Chapel transitioned on February 1, 2016, to the care of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.), an order founded in 1831 by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara of India. The C.M.I.s have expanded their ministry across 32 countries, including many states in the U.S., bringing their rich spiritual heritage to our community.
