Monument Mountain Reservation is a park and tourist attraction located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, United States. From the 1,642-foot summit of this popular peak, visitors can gaze across the splendor of the Housatonic River Valley. The mountain has been sacred to the Mohican people and their ancestors since ancient times, with stone offerings imbued with prayers left on the mountain creating the "monument" for which it is named. The original monument was destroyed by white residents after the Mohicans were dispossessed, but was later recreated near the Mohican Monument Trail.

Monument Mountain has long inspired works of art and literature, with authors such as William Cullen Bryant, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Herman Melville finding motivation for their works on the mountain. Today, more than 20,000 hikers ascend to its summit, Peeskawso Peak, each year. Three trails offer scenic ways to explore the mountain's pale quartzite geology and views out to Mount Greylock and the Catskill Mountains.

Admission for nonmembers is $6 for parking, with free admission for members. The mountain is accessible from various points in Massachusetts, with a free trail map available at the parking area. The Trustees Hiking Challenge encourages visitors to explore the hundreds of miles of trails at the reservation.

"After 50 years, it was great to be able to hike to the top of Monument Mountain again! There are several different trail options, although they are all uphill, but the view is well worth the hike!"

"This hike is always rewarding, no matter how many times you've seen the views before! Most people recommend going up the left way from the parking lot which is the longer, less steeper option. However, I like to take a right form the parking lot to get that steep incline (great glutes workout!) and then have a nice and easy walk down the other side. I find the steep way down to be a bit too hard on my knees too!"

"Hiked here today. It's listed in AllTrails as Hickey and Peeskawso Peak Loop. Great loop trail with a lot of beautiful rock stairs to get to the top. Lots of unique and pretty natural features like delicate ferns, moss, small waterfalls and gigantic boulders. Beautiful pictures at the summit. Parking lot was full by the time we left at 12:50 on a Saturday. Took us an hour and 20 minutes to complete. $6 to park. Worth it to hike at least one time. It had rained and there were lots of leaves. It would be slippery with wet or dry leaves so make sure you have good grip on your shoes or be careful coming down. I saw 2 dogs on the trail. Even though you pay to park, be aware there are no bathrooms or trash cans. Weird. Overall a good hike and worth the price."

"The gf and I were bored one weekend, and decided to find something to do and stumbled upon this mountain. So we decided to try it. The parking lots is a decent size but we came the day after it rained and there were huge puddles everywhere. So if you plan on trying this place after or during rain make sure you bring boots. The trail leading up what's pretty easy just a slight incline. The trail up to the peak was moderately challenging but not too bad. I wouldn't recommend bringing little kids because there are thin sections to pass through and rocks to climb down in order to get to certain areas and not very safe for little ones. But the view from the top was beautiful. Coming down the other side there's a small waterfall and stream that were also pretty cool. All in all I had a good time on a boring weekend."
