As a dedicated national police force, the APD is committed to safeguarding the well-being of Amtrak’s customers, employees, and stakeholders. Our team, consisting of over 500 sworn and civilian personnel, operates across more than 30 locations in 46 states, implementing comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety and security of Amtrak’s infrastructure, employees, and the over 30 million customers traveling across 21,400 miles of routes to over 500 destinations, including three Canadian provinces. The APD collaborates with federal, state, local, rail, and transit law enforcement agencies to maintain a robust police presence at numerous Amtrak stations and along the rights-of-way. Our services include obtaining police reports, requesting security for VIP movements, submitting requests for Body Worn Camera (BWC) video, and initiating complaints. We also facilitate requests for authorization to travel armed aboard Amtrak trains and welcome notes of recognition or letters of thanks for our officers.
