Located at 2 Fort Street in the quaint Apponagansett neighborhood, Russell Garrison is a small, town-owned public park that offers a glimpse into the rich history of the 17th century. This significant site features the reconstructed foundational remnants of the homestead of early settler John Russell, a key figure in the establishment of the locally renowned Russell family. Originally fortified with a wooden stockade, the homestead played a pivotal role during King Philip's War in the 1670s, bearing witness to attacks that shaped the region's history.
