The Cary family resided in the house from the 1760s until the early 20th century, affectionately calling it “the Retreat”. The Governor Bellingham-Cary House Association has preserved this National Landmark property for over a century, with grants helping to maintain both the building and its contents. Visitors, including Chelsea school children, can explore this piece of history and learn about the past through guided tours.
