Joseph Bates Home
The Joseph Bates Home, located at 191 Main Street in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, is a historic institution that offers guided tours from May 1 to October 31. Acquired by AHM in 2005, this home was built in 1742 and is the oldest in Fairhaven. Joseph Bates Jr, a prominent figure in the temperance and abolition movements, lived here with his family starting in 1793. After a successful career at sea, Bates became a Millerite preacher and played a key role in the founding of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Visitors to the Joseph Bates Home can explore his life story and learn about his contributions to various causes. The institution is currently undergoing development to include a first-class interactive museum. Contributions are welcome to help maintain the home and complete the museum.
