Old Town Hill Parking - A Scenic Escape in Newbury, Massachusetts
Welcome to Old Town Hill, a breathtaking park and tourist attraction located on Newman Road in Newbury, Massachusetts. Nestled at the top of a 168-foot coastal hill, Old Town Hill offers visitors panoramic views of the Great Marsh and the distant New Hampshire's Isle of Shoals. This stunning landscape, once called Quascacunquen by Indigenous Peoples, is a harmonious blend of tidal rivers, salt marshes, open fields, and woodlands.
Explore Nature's Wonders
Discover a thriving ecosystem that supports a diverse range of wildlife. From ground-nesting birds and hunting hawks to wading birds like egrets and great blue herons, nature enthusiasts will find much to admire. The salt marsh, formed over 12,000 years ago, is home to mud snails, green crabs, and ribbed mussels. Vibrant salt meadow grass, cordgrass, seaside goldenrod, and sea lavender thrive here, nourished by the Parker and Little rivers.
Trails and Pathways
Embark on a journey through a three-mile network of trails that ascend to offer sweeping views of protected open spaces along the Parker River. The Ridge Trail provides moderate climbs with vistas to the south, east, and north, while the family-friendly River Trail meanders past an old pasture and into an oak forest.

Conveniently located just off Rt. 95, Old Town Hill is accessible via Rt. 133 East and Rt. 1A North, with parking available for 10 cars on Newman Road. Free printed trail maps are available at the parking area, though we recommend downloading a map in advance.

Reviews
"Small parking area off the street but there's an entrance to one path right there and then another to the hill about a minutes walk up the road."
"Old Town Hill located in Newbury Mass is a great hike along the Salt marshes. If you take the ridege trail, part of the Bay Circuit Trail, to the top of the hill you will be rewarded with some awesome views of the seacoast. I spent 2 and half hours hiking with my kids, it wasn't enough time to explore everything. The hiking difficulty was challenging because of the climb to the top of hill, not a place for strollers, but bird watchers would love the property. No porta potties on site so be warned to go before you go. Plenty of places to picnic or have a snack, if want to eat something. The place is carry in and carry out, and is popular with locals who have dogs."
"Went in late August during a dry spell. We really liked this hike - views were stunning and it was enough of a hill / distance we worked up a sweat but not so much our small dog couldn’t keep up. We’ll be back this fall for sure. Lots of mosquitos was only downside, but we forgot the bug spray in the car which certainly would have helped!"
"Old Town Hill is a great place for a walk. Even the longest loop is not too strenuous. It would be a great place to bring young kids to get them interested in hiking and being in nature. The short walk down by the river is very easy, but pretty. The hike up the hill is a little more challenging, but still doable by a preschooler. Nice views of the ocean from the top. Great place for a picnic lunch. If you hike the loop, go left, not straight when you get to the grassy field."
"Beautiful place lots of natural eye candy.."
