The African Meeting House, located at 8 Smith Court in Boston, Massachusetts, is a museum that holds significant historical importance. The Abiel Smith School, the oldest public school in the United States built for educating African American children, is where visitors can purchase tickets, explore exhibitions, and shop at the museum store. The African Meeting House, the oldest existing black church building in the nation, is the last stop on the Black Heritage Trail®. The Theater Offensive, located at 565 Boylston Street in Boston, Massachusetts, is dedicated to presenting liberating art by, for, and about queer and trans people of color. Their mission is to transcend artistic boundaries, celebrate cultural abundance, and dismantle oppression. Recently, they hosted a brunch to honor the beauty and sacred nature of Trans life, as well as celebrated cultural leaders like Charles D. Evans & Paul Glass. The organization is led by Executive Director Giselle Byrd, who is passionate about leading the Theater Offensive on its journey of theater innovation and queer and trans liberation. They have also been named beneficiaries of a $1 million Cultural Investment Grant from the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, bringing them closer to their goal of opening their first-ever permanent home, the Boylston Black Box, in the Fenway area. This new space, anticipated to open in the Spring of 2024, will be the largest theater in the world owned and operated by QTPOC for LGBTQ people, their allies, families, and friends. The Theater Offensive continues to push boundaries and create inclusive spaces for all through their innovative programs and collaborations with QTPOC femme artists.
