Tawes Garden
Tawes Garden, located at 580 Taylor Avenue in Annapolis, Maryland, is a charming public garden situated on the grounds of the Tawes State Office Building, home to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. This five-acre garden showcases representations of Maryland's diverse geographic regions, including a Western Maryland forest, a streamside environment, and an Eastern Shore peninsula. Visitors can enjoy pleasant ponds, a variety of plantings, and a raised planter with plants of different textures and fragrances. Admission to the garden is free, and guided tours can be arranged by reservation. The garden is named in honor of Mrs. J. Millard Tawes, a former first lady of Maryland, who was known for her love of music, cooking, and hospitality. The garden site was once a flat cinder lot and served as the location for the West Annapolis carnival for many years.
