Perkins Square Gazebo

Dating back to the 1840s, this charming oasis was once known as Perkins' Spring, a popular destination on the edge of the bustling city. The park's main attraction was a fresh-water spring that provided 60 gallons of water per minute, which was highly valued by local residents, especially during times of flooding. In 1853, the city purchased a small triangle of land surrounding the spring to protect it from development and preserve it as a green space for the growing population on the west side of Baltimore. The park was enhanced with a brick enclosure and a beautiful cast iron Moorish-style canopy over the spring. A park keeper was appointed to maintain the grounds, which were adorned with hundreds of colorful flowers grown in the park's greenhouse.
