Hackerman House, located at 1 West Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore, Maryland, is a museum housed in the historic townhouse of the Walters Art Museum. After a major refurbishment in 2018, the house reopened with a new installation that reflects on the history of the building and its residents. The current exhibition is inspired by a letter written during the Civil War by Sybby Grant, an enslaved woman who worked as a cook for the Thomas family and lived in the house from 1850 to 1888. Contemporary artists Roberto Lugo and Herb Massie collaborated with the Baltimore community to create artworks that respond to Sybby Grant's story, the history of race in the United States, and works in the Walters collection. Perkins Square Gazebo is a historic institution located at 901-1003 Myrtle Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Dating back to the 1840s, this charming oasis was once known as Perkins' Spring, a popular destination on the edge of the bustling city. The park's main attraction was a fresh-water spring that provided 60 gallons of water per minute, which was highly valued by local residents, especially during times of flooding. In 1853, the city purchased a small triangle of land surrounding the spring to protect it from development and preserve it as a green space for the growing population on the west side of Baltimore. The park was enhanced with a brick enclosure and a beautiful cast iron Moorish-style canopy over the spring. A park keeper was appointed to maintain the grounds, which were adorned with hundreds of colorful flowers grown in the park's greenhouse.
