The UMBC Psychology Training Clinic, located at 1450 South Rolling Road in Halethorpe, Maryland, is a teaching facility within the university that offers low-cost, evidence-based individual psychotherapy for adults dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues, and other mental health challenges. Under the direction of Clinic Director Dr. Rebecca Schacht and licensed psychologists, graduate students in UMBC’s Clinical Training Program in Human Services Psychology provide direct services to clients while receiving close supervision. The clinic, situated in the Psychology Training, Research, and Services Center at UMBC’s Research and Technology Park South, welcomes adults from the university and the community, regardless of affiliation with UMBC. The clinic operates on a sliding scale fee structure to ensure affordability and does not accept insurance due to its status as a training clinic. Services are provided by student clinicians training to become clinical psychologists, who work under the supervision of licensed psychologists. The clinic follows evidence-based practice principles, incorporating various therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Sessions are recorded for training purposes and kept confidential. Clients undergo an initial intake appointment to develop a personalized treatment plan to address their mental health needs. The clinic operates throughout the year, with closures on UMBC holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year's Day.
