Henry Royce Institute
● Closed“The Henry Royce Institute (often referred to as ‘Royce’) is the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research and innovation. Its vision is to identify challenges and to stimulate innovation in advanced materials research to support sustainable growth and development. Royce aims to be a "single front door" to the UK’s materials research community. Its stated mission is to “support world-recognised excellence in UK materials research, accelerating commercial exploitation of innovations, and delivering positive economic and societal impact for the UK.” Operating with its Hub at the University of Manchester, Royce is a partnership of nine leading UK institutions. It is a hub and spoke collaboration between the University of Manchester (the hub), National Nuclear Laboratory, UK Atomic Energy Authority, Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of Oxford and the University of Sheffield. In 2014, Chancellor George Osborne announced the launch of the Henry Royce Institute for advanced materials science in his Autumn Statement in 2014. He pledged "a quarter of a billion" to support his proposals from June 2014 on creating a Northern Powerhouse. Royce was then established through a grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), which has been used to fund construction and refurbishment of buildings, equipment, and research and technical staff. Royce now coordinates over 900 academics and over £300 million in facilities, "providing a joined-up framework that can deliver beyond the current capabilities of individual partners or research teams.” Royce is one of the EPSRC's four major research institutes, the other three being: The Alan Turing Institute in data science; the Faraday Institution in battery science and technology; and the Rosalind Franklin Institute, which focuses on transforming life science through interdisciplinary research and technology development. These institutes represent a total financial investment of around £478 million and reflect the EPSRC’s vision and objectives ("to deliver economic impact and social prosperity; to realise the potential of engineering and physical sciences research; and to enable the UK engineering and physical sciences landscape to deliver"). The Henry Royce Institute is named after Sir Frederick Henry Royce OBE, a British engineer famous for his designs of car and airplane engines. Henry Royce manufactured his first car in Manchester in 1904, and in 1906 co-founded Rolls-Royce.”

Oasis Academy Temple
● ClosedSmedley Lane, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8SA, United Kingdom“Oasis Academy Temple converted to academy status in July 2018. As a large school, of approximately 700 pupils, our halls are rich with cultural diversity. In fact our children come from 23 different countries and between us all we can boast an impressive 27 different languages. Our motto and vision therefore feed into making sure that our family here at Oasis Academy Temple can live happily together and benefit from inclusive and supportive learning. Being part of the Oasis family of academies, the overarching vision of our Academy is to provide 'Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community'. We want to ensure that all of our young people, whatever their starting points or background, get the education they deserve - and they deserve nothing less than exceptional. At Oasis Community Learning, and across each of our academies, we know that our pupils are always learning, both inside the classroom and at home, and that families play an essential part in supporting the educational journey. We also understand the importance of having a dynamic, engaging and outstanding curriculum, taught by our subject experts in the best possible way. Oasis Horizons is a scheme being introduced into every Oasis academy throughout the academic year 2020-2021, where each current and future pupil, and their teachers and support staff, will be provided with an iPad to give them access to enhanced online learning. Students and teachers will be able to use the device together in lessons to bring subjects to life and participate in shared learning. Students will even be able to continue this at home! Oasis Horizons is the third part of a wider strategy; the other two elements being the development of an outstanding Oasis curriculum and investing in our pedagogy; making sure that we are sharing the latest and best teaching methods with our staff. The technology provided puts exceptional teaching and learning into the hands of every Oasis student at school, and at home no matter where they are in the country. With Oasis Horizons, our young people will have the opportunity to develop a firm foundation towards further education, or aspirational, fulfilling and prosperous careers. The Oasis model of governance is designed to ensure strong accountability and therefore great educational standards. Statutory governance responsibilities are held by the OCL Board, who ultimately govern each academy. These responsibilities are delegated to the OCL CEO, National Director of Academies and Regional Directors and then to Principals; taking responsibility for overall performance, financial viability, legal compliance and statutory duties.”
