“What a lovely little place. Can be romantic, can be a friend date, can even be something you do on your own. The key to this place is the fact that they keep the food simple. Very simply, there are no frills. You go here to put food in your belly and to enjoy the atmosphere. The lady serving is lovely making the food all the more nicer.”

“Gorgeous setting for a meal during the day after a walk but equally lovely in the evenings. Traditional English pub with a great history, tied in to the local mining museum. Open fires in the colder months making it such a cozy setting and lovely outdoor area for warmer months. My most recent visit was after a change of landlord/lady. The food really delicious with great service. I'm vegan and had a really fantastic choice of options. My omnivore friends were equally delighted with their meals. Dog and child friendly.”

“Visited on Sunday 18th April 2021 - Pay and Paddle / Self Launch With the current C-19 restrictions, we've not been able to get to the lake district for a while, and were looking for somewhere close to home for a relaxed family paddle. We have our own boats and equipment, so were looking for somewhere we could self launch and enjoy some family time. After speaking to one of their really helpful staff, Shannon, by email - we booked a two slots online for the early morning. Arriving about 15 minutes before our time to check in, we were issued with tags for our boats and given details on where we could paddle (there was a water polo game in progress in a small area, and in the afternoon the deeper end of the lake hosts powered craft and some open water swimmers. We were lucky with the weather, warm, sunny with only a slight wind - as otherers have mentioned, some areas of the lake are fairly shallow, however this didn't cause us to ground out either kayak, or struggle paddling. The water was exceptionally clear and there was plenty of wildlife - keeping a respectful distance - the kids enjoyed seeing the gees and swan nests. It was a great fun day out, exceptional value for money and one we plan to recreate as soon as we're able! Thank you to everyone on site!”

“Lovely pub, we stopped here on a bike ride, the man on the bar was lovely and couldn't do enough, he was dashing around serving drinks, taking meal orders and serving them. We had the beef cobbler - very nice, and the Rudolph ale also a tasty ale.”

“Just got back from a one night stay and it was excellent. The room was spotlessly clean, the staff were extremely helpful. After a long drive up from Bristol it was perfect to pop next door and have a couple of beers. The breakfast was great, they catered for the vegetarians amongst us with no problems. We will definitely be staying here again Thank you”

“Fantastic location Free parking if using pub if not just £6 for 24 hours lovely walk next to pub along river Mersey very small bit not main bit. Very user friendly large beer garden, dog area, kids play area.”

“It's a beautiful place to visit with a boating lake, aviaries, play areas for big kids and little kids and some lovely short walks. Not to mention bowling tennis football and a cafe. It's also got a train and ice-cream in summer. It's just unfortunate that the botanical house has died a death ( shame on you shameside!)”

“The grounds of Mesnes Park are kept beautifully, certainly a lovely walk with much to do. There’s good old Fredericks ice cream at the centre with reasonably priced ice cream and deserts available, parks for the kids to play, plenty of space and smooth paths for kids (or adults) to roller skate/skateboard, and plenty of ducks, swans and geese (I think) to feed. Overall, a lovely little trip now the weathers getting better!”

“First time for us trying this place. We had 'The Boathouse Prime Beef Burger' which was Fantastic, lovely Restaurant, very retro, the Staff were Brilliant too. We will definitely be going back. Highly Recomnended.”

“Had a good night in here on Saturday. Met up with my brothers and wives. A nice friendly old style pub. Staff and customers were very welcoming. There's a beer garden and bowling green at the back. We will be going back again.”

“Went for the first time yesterday, myself and two teenagers. Wasn't really expecting too much but WOW!! Absolutely loved the place, much bigger than expected, lovely big layout for the animals. All look really well looked after,the goats especially fantastic!. Brilliant value for money ,plenty of places to picnic,clean toilets and lots of handwash stations. Can't recommend enough,don't hesitate just go and enjoy !!”

“Highfield Country Park worth visit & must visit to keep a park. In 2017, plans for redeveloping an area of Highfield Country Park were passed by Manchester Council. Friends of Highfield Country Park objected to this decision but were overruled. The park is suitable for all the family to go there for a good time picnics, walk, cycling and to explore the park. Probably you need a few visits to cover the whole park.”

“New to the area and we decided to come in on saturday morning, the girls on the bar were so lovely and made sure we were well looked after that we decided to pop in on sunday as well and to our suprise the same two members, Jen and Chloe were there. They really made us feel welcome and made excellent drink recommendations. Will definitely be returning”

“That was the best pub food that I ever had. I was there yesterday with my walking group came for a nice dinner and the staff were fantastic and amazing and I had a Lasagna and that was amazing dinner. Well done to the staff”

“Best coffee today ! Café overall is very pleasant and friendly with wide range if delicious cakes and nibbles. But if you go regularly you know usually if coffee will be good based on barista on duty.”
