McNeese CAMPP
The McNeese Center for Advancement of Meat Production and Processing (CAMPP) is a unique facility located at 19087 Frontage Road in Welsh, Louisiana. This institution, part of McNeese State University, offers valuable education and hands-on training for students in the agricultural sciences field, focusing on all aspects of meat harvesting. CAMPP is the only federally inspected red meat harvest facility in the state and is one of the few universities in the country to have such a specialized facility. Situated on a 16-acre tract of land just off I-10 in Jefferson Davis Parish, CAMPP covers 7,350 square feet and is equipped for processing beef, swine, sheep, and goats. The facility also includes equipment for sausage making, custom meat processing, commercial refrigeration, and a retail sales area. Students at CAMPP learn about packaging, preservation, marketing, transportation, quality assurance, and food safety. Additionally, faculty, staff, and students conduct research in animal science and related areas to benefit the local and national industry.
