Black & Blue

"I agree with some of the other reviewers regarding flavors. There’s no salt at all on anything. Salt is essential to bring out flavors (Hint: salt, fat, acid etc.= umami.) I ordered the Filet medium rare and got a well done, or medium well at best, steak that hadn’t been rested. The issue of resting was a problem for my husband who had the chips, since they sat in a bloody pool and got soggy. I also ordered green beans that were served without having the stems removed. As a starter, we ordered the artichoke and spinach dip with corn tortilla chips. The chips were leathery and again neither item had any additional salt from the small amount included in the cheese it was made with. I applaud them for attempting to hand make the chips but you HAVE to make sure that your oil temperature is hot enough to make crispy chips before cooking. (I’m from Phoenix, AZ and know what a tortilla chip should taste like.) The dip was cold in the middle and scalding around the edges. So, if you’re going to microwave something, be sure to stir it. At least the Rioja was good."

"This is a clearly 5 for me. Incredible steak with many options and fair prices. We had the cote de boeuf for 47£ for 2. The portion was decent and it came with 2 sets of fries, 2 sauces (multiple options) and a massive salad. We also had a starter which made us really full so it was a bit unnecessary given the portion size of the main dish. But everything was delicious. They also have a set menu option for 20£ for 2 courses and 24£ for 3. It is offered between noon and 7pm so you could easily have it as early dinner. If you are searching for a good steak and possibly an alternative to flat iron, this is it."

"Ooh the pork rib was succulent and the mashed potatoes even better. They were accepting walk-ins on a Friday evening; literally saved us after losing out on a prior restaurant. The caipirinha came out a bit too strong but they were sweet to replace it for a better version."

"Good, but not mind blowing. I heard good things about the ribs in other Black & Blue locations, but I personally found them quite dry and overly smokey. They could have been juicier and softer. The location is nice, you can sit outside in the sun and it’s not as busy as you might think around it. Would come back to try something else on the menu, or to see if the ribs have improved"

"Unfortunately I wasn't impressed by Black & Blue. The seasoning and flavour of the steak was very average, it didn't wow me at all. The staff were friendly but not attentive, we had to get their attention each time we wanted something...even after asking for the bill and making a payment! I've reviewed a few steak places - Black & Blue doesn't make the top 5."
