Local eats in Edgware

“Mmmm shashlik! Tender, spicy but not hot spicy......make your mouth water spicy. Charcoal chicken wings. Not the skinny flappy bit but,the shoulder and bicep. A tiny sprinkle of fresh lemon juice drizzled into the munchable, tender chicken. The starter dip things.... FANTASTIC Turkish naan. Light and fluffy with a good outside crunch, dipped into fresh proper humus. A garlicy yoghurt dip thing. Grilled onion quarters in a pomegranate sauce. A fresh and tangy salad with tomatoes, cos lettuce, cucumber, onion. Often Turkish salads that I've had have just been sprinkled with vinegar which, can make them slightly bland. Not so Charcoal's salad dressing. Imagine a charcoaled meat selection served on a bed of rice with a chips border and a sort of thin, round flatbread covering to keep the aroma and heat contained. Lamb shish in very small,succulent cubes on wooden skewers. The charcoal chicken wings, shashlik, thin strips of doner.thick, tender lamb chunks. Add a glass of Turkish red wine (or three). Maybe some Turkish tea with something sweet for those of us who like the slightest perspiration invoked by overeating. Yes, they do takeaway. Yes they have all sorts of fizzy drinks. But, they are not your usual Turkish takeaway. This place is well worth a sit-down for an hour or so and serious, professional eating. Opposite Lidl so maybe, if you do some shopping in Lidl - you could park there. Personally, I think it's worth taking the Northern line and walking from Edgware statation. A couple of outside tables for those that need a quick cigarette or an afternoon cup of coffee and a baklava. I was introduced by a friend who is Turkish and himself a retired restaurateur. In the 20 plus years I have known him - he has always steered me to places that are good quality and not overpriced. This isn't a place with fancy carpets and bow tie waiters. It's like a mum n dad place who care and concentrate on flavour.”

“Called up the cafe to ask if I could change something on the deliveroo sharing platter for 2, no trouble at all and the lady on the phone was polite (the most polite I’ve ever spoken too from a cafe) changing was no trouble. The food arrived piping hot, fresh, such a generous amount that it fed our daughter too. Will 1000% reccomend and order again, couldn’t even tell it was delivered was like eating in. “Best Food in town ! I usually eat here 3-4 times a month. No week without the Toni’s prawns:)) The restaurant is small but good food and atmosphere. Give it a try . Lots of variety of drinks . You should try the lamb chops and pizza is delicious. Small menu but satisfactory . Small business which just started in summer needs our support to grow.”

“Been ordering from this place for a while now. Normally from uber. This time we went In and sat down to eat. I Normally get the omelette bap. Reading the menu found out they do alot of inidan dishes. Can't wait to go back and try them. Was asked how spicy I like my bap found that to be the key. As before once I ordered from uber it came too spicy. I can handle my heat but my god that day I cried. But over all great place to grab a sandwich and odd indian dishes. Bombay sandwich was really tasty too. Must visit place gotta say”

“Best Halal burgers in London! I have been patiently waiting for this restaurant to open for quite a long time and finally managed to go there with the family over weekend. Great owner, amazing staff and comfortable spectacular seating interior. Food was out of this world - taste, texture and presentation took the whole dining experience to another level. They serve a range of delicious burgers, wings, tenders, shakes and desserts. Their cute little sliders were just perfect for my little children. InshAllah will be visiting Shrunk more often. 5 Stars!”

“At first, I thought it was an average Syrian restaurant. The staff welcomed me when I arrived with a free aromatic Arabic coffee. I ordered Fatoosh salad and Arayes for starter, then an Arabic Chicken Shawarma for the main. The dishes were generous, super delicious, perfectly cooked and presented! “Came in on a lovely Sunday afternoon and I could clearly tell that the people working there were understaffed. I ordered fish and chippy for myself and my family and I noticed that there were a lot of people also waiting to be served. We all got our meal on time, which was lovely and what what impressed me the most was the service of the staff and in particular Robert. He was so nice and understanding even though there must have been immense pressure to continue his service. Please Morrisons make sure you take care of him and his staff. Will come back! 11/10 service.”
