East Race Waterway
Located in the heart of downtown South Bend, Indiana, the East Race Waterway is a unique recreational facility operated by the local government. As the first artificial white water course in North America, it offers an urban thrill unlike any other. The rapids on the course can reach heights of up to six feet, providing a challenging experience for both novice and professional kayakers. The water level can be controlled through headgates, creating whitewater turbulence for a variety of skill levels. In addition to the exciting water activities, the East Race Waterway also boasts over five miles of paved walking and running paths along the scenic St. Joseph River. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while getting some exercise.
