Hovey Lake Fish and Wildlife Area
β OpenHovey Lake Fish and Wildlife Area is a stunning natural oasis located in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Covering approximately 7,404 acres, this park features a 1,400-acre oxbow lake, smaller sloughs, marshes, and beautiful bottomland hardwood forests. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, and paddling. The history of Hovey Lake FWA dates back to the 1800s when it was designated as swampland and later became the property of Charles J. Hovey. The Indiana DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife acquired the land in 1939 and has been dedicated to preserving and maintaining this unique natural area ever since.
