Braidwood Dunes and Savanna Nature Preserve
Braidwood Dunes and Savanna Nature Preserve is a 315-acre park located in Braidwood, Illinois. Part of the Kankakee Sands preservation system, this nature preserve offers a variety of habitats including prairie, savanna, and wetland areas. Visitors can explore the unique crescent-shaped sand dunes that were formed when the area was the shoreline of ancient glacial Lake Wauponsee. Home to over 30 bird species, as well as amphibians and reptiles, the preserve also boasts a diverse array of plant species such as huckleberry and prickly pear cactus. Managed with invasive species control and habitat restoration, the preserve is dedicated to protecting its natural resources. With 0.50 miles of natural surface trails for hiking and running, Braidwood Dunes and Savanna Nature Preserve is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Jeffers Park
Jeffers Park is a popular tourist attraction located at 221 West Water Street in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. Operated by the Kankakee Valley Park District, this park is dedicated to providing recreational facilities and promoting the conservation of natural and historical resources for the benefit of all residents in the area. Established in 1925, the District serves over 28,000 residents in Aroma Park and Kankakee Townships. Governed by a board of five elected Commissioners, the park employs a dedicated staff of full-time and part-time workers to maintain the park and provide various programs and services. One of the highlights of Jeffers Park is Splash Valley Aquatic Park, where visitors can enjoy a summer job as a lifeguard.
