Scoville Park
● OpenScoville Park, located at 800 Lake Street in Oak Park, Illinois, is a popular tourist attraction and community gathering place. The park, open from sunrise to 10pm, features a playground open from sunrise to sunset, three tennis courts, a tot lot, and a large meadow perfect for Frisbee enthusiasts. The park is home to the World War I “Peace Triumphant” Monument, a focal point surrounded by a plaza area. Originally designed by landscape architect Jens Jensen and purchased in 1912, Scoville Park turned 100 years old in 2012 and was named to the National Register of Historic Places. The park underwent a complete renovation in June 2013 as part of the Park District’s Capital Improvement Program. Visitors can also see the Percy Julian Memorial Bust, honoring the renowned chemist and Oak Park resident, as well as a plaque recognizing the first settlers of Oak Park, Joseph and Betty Kettlestrings.

Mills Park

The park is adjacent to the Oak Park Pleasant District and features the historic Pleasant Home, a National Historic Landmark designed by architect George W. Maher in 1897. The Pleasant Home is owned by the Park District of Oak Park and operated by the Pleasant Home Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and operating this architectural landmark as a historic house museum. The park, named after its second owner Herbert S. Mills, was acquired by the Park District of Oak Park in 1939. In 2011, a major renovation of Mills Park was undertaken, including new accessible entrances, paved walkways, a looped walking path, interpretive signage, a children's play area, benches, lighting, landscaping, and the planting of numerous trees. The roof of the Pleasant Home was also replaced in 2018 to match its original historic design.
