Hells Gate State Park
● ClosedHells Gate State Park, located at 5100 Hells Gate Road in Lewiston, Idaho, is a stunning park and tourist attraction with a rich history. The park sits on the river bottom left over from the ice age floods, with basaltic columns from the Pomona flows dating back 14 million years. Once the site of a Nez Perce Village, the park now offers a range of activities including jet boat rides up the Snake River, fishing for steelhead, picnicking, and biking on the Clearwater and Snake River trail. Campers can enjoy quiet and grassy campsites along the Snake River, with the park being situated at the lowest elevation in Idaho. The warm weather in the area has earned Lewiston the nickname of Idaho's Banana Belt. Nearby attractions include the Nez Perce National Historic Park, showcasing the traditional life of the Nez Perce people, and the Jack O’Conner Hunting Heritage and Education Center, displaying hunting trophies and telling the story of America's hunting heritage.
