Pend Oreille (Clark Fork Unit) Wildlife Management Area
The Pend Oreille (Clark Fork Unit) Wildlife Management Area is located in Clark Fork, Idaho, United States. This institution consists of 25 parcels of land scattered along the edges of Lake Pend Oreille, the Pend Oreille River, Pack River, Clark Fork Delta, Priest River and nearby waters. The properties range in size from 2 acres to 1,729 acres and are managed primarily for wildlife. Public facilities are available but scattered across the sprawling WMA, with paved roads providing access to the properties. Once on the WMA, all travel is non-motorized, with mowed maintenance trails providing paths for foot travel, biking, skiing, and other means of non-motorized travel. The Pend Oreille WMA was acquired as mitigation for impacts from the construction of Albeni Falls Dam, which altered the natural flooding cycle of Lake Pend Oreille. The properties provide habitat for migrating and wintering waterfowl, with thousands of ducks, geese, and swans utilizing the area during migration. The WMA is also important for breeding and nesting habitat for waterfowl, with staff and volunteers maintaining nesting platforms and boxes for various species.
