"My mother was in this facility for 4 yrs. 8 weeks ago she fell in Tuesday and Wednesday. They did call both times. The last fall sent her to the ER because she cut her head. She was on blood thinner so they did a CT scan for possible bleed. The ER was in Anderson, SC. It showed no bleed, so they sent her back to Hartwell. She could talk and open her eyes . When I arrived Thursday morning to check on her, she could not talk or open her eyes. My daughters came and we stayed with her all day. She was declining. They did not check on her but maybe twice all day. Dr came by around 7. Said she possible had a toxic infection and the blood work would show it. The blood work results would not be back until 1am. He felt that she was ok even though he could not get herto speak or open her eyes. Fast forward. Around 8- 8:30, we asked for the dr to call us. He did not nor would he answer our call. Mom was declining. We requested her to be sent to another hospital. They said the dr would not send her until blood work came back. Nurses refused also. We call 911 ourselves and had mom taken to St. Mary's in Athens. They even said they might not be able to release her, we took her out. They would not give the EMT's any of her information. The next CT scan showed that she did have a bleed on the back right side of her head. That would be from Tuesday's fall. 2 weeks later my mother passed away. Always check on your love ones"

"Over the past 5 years it has went down hill. Yes there is some very caring nurses there. But also they have some very hatful ones. We have been able to go in and visit our family member up until today. For the past two weeks I’ve been to visit they didn’t have her hearing aides turned on or her glasses on. And more than a few times they didn’t even put her teeth in. How she ate breakfast I don’t know. She’s been there roughly 10 months in that time they have lost her glasses, lost one of her hearing aides and also lost her bottom teeth. Most of those they replaced after many phone calls fussing at them. But she still has gotten her bottom teeth back yet. Also to add in one of my visits she had to sit in a soiled diaper for 45 minutes before someone came(she can’t stand or walk) I couldn’t change it myself because I can’t get her up. Finally a sweet friend of mine came to the rescue while I was fussing about it in the hall. I could go on but I recommend not sending your loved one here. The administration doesn’t seem to care about the patients true well being!!!"

"Our family wanted to share our feelings about this home in hopes that it may help others in the painful position of trying to find a skilled nursing facility for their family member. Our Mom had Alzheimer's, but this home cares for a variety of illnesses and offers rehab services as well. We decided to move Mom from her nursing home in Atlanta in late 2019 when the Management changed leadership and we were unhappy with her care. Finding a good place, regardless of location, was our priority. We read good things about Hartwell Health, but we were skeptical after our most recent experience. We found Hartwell to be a breath of fresh air. The staff was so warm and kind, the facility was really clean, all the residents looked well cared for and happy, the food looked great, so we decided to give it a shot. It was a true blessing that we made that decision. No one could have predicted that 3 1/2 months after Mom moved in, that we wouldn't be able to see her for a year! It was rough, but the staff at Hartwell did an amazing job! They kept us in the loop with text, email and phone calls, face-timed with us, arranged for in-person, but distanced visits when possible. But the most important thing they did for us was act as our stand-ins when we couldn't be there with her. They gave Mom love, compassion, and most importantly, treated her with dignity. Recently Mom was placed in hospice as her health declined. She passed just a few days ago and although we are still very sad she is gone, knowing she was in good hands while we were apart gave us great peace. We really love the staff at Hartwell Health and will forever be grateful for them. Thank you , The Family of Muriel E."

"This facility discriminates against the elderly with Medicaid. I have tried for serval weeks to get in touch with Loir, with no call backs. Once they knew my grandmother was a Medicaid patient they blantely ignored us. Not to mention the unprofessional staff that answers the phone. My 5 year old has better manners than half of them! I would not feel safe to send my loved one here if they received Medicaid."
