Haralson Mill Covered Bridge
The Haralson Mill Covered Bridge, located at 4400 Haralson Mill Road Northeast in Conyers, Georgia, is a historic institution that was built in 1997. This covered wooden bridge replaced a historic ford that crossed Haralson Mill Road, which was once an unimproved dirt road in North Rockdale County. It is the first of its kind to be built in Georgia since the 1890s. The bridge is situated just north of the Haralson Mill Historic District, which includes the Haralson Mill House, a general store, the old mill site, and a blacksmith shop. Rockdale County chose to build a wooden bridge to preserve the historic nature of the area, rather than opting for the more common concrete and steel structures. The design of the bridge was inspired by bridges from the early 1800s, in order to maintain the historical integrity of the surroundings. Visitors to the Haralson Mill Covered Bridge can experience a piece of Georgia's past while enjoying the picturesque setting of the historic district.
