The General Muir
β OpenThe General Muir is a modern American restaurant located in Atlanta, Georgia, that pays homage to classic New York Jewish Deli traditions. The restaurant, established in 2013, offers hand-crafted dishes such as house-cured pastrami and hand-rolled bagels, as well as innovative creations made with fresh ingredients. The name of the restaurant is inspired by the refugee transport ship that brought co-owner Jennifer Johnson's Holocaust survivor relatives to New York in 1949. The General Muir serves breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner, and also features an espresso bar and a full bar with a selection of wine, beer, spirits, and cocktails. In addition, the restaurant has a bakery called TGM Bread and a soup shop called TGM Soup Co. The owners, Jennifer and Ben Johnson, Shelley Sweet, and Chef Todd Ginsberg, also operate other restaurants in Atlanta under the Rye Restaurants family. The General Muir has received recognition from organizations such as the James Beard Foundation and the Georgia Restaurant Association. The restaurant's origin story is beautifully captured in a video by Atlanta Magazine, featuring images from the deck of the Gen. Muir shared by a Holocaust survivor's family. Visit The General Muir to experience a blend of tradition and innovation in a welcoming atmosphere.
