Florida Tongue Tie Institute

"I had a highly disappointing experience with the Florida Tongue Tie Institute in Palm Harbor. They failed to identify my son's severe tongue and lip ties (classes 3 & 4), which resulted in missed opportunities for early intervention. As a result, my son's lip tie has already impacted the spacing of his top teeth, which could have been addressed when he was just 2 months old, rather than waiting until he turned 1 year old. The fact that he needlessly suffered during this time is distressing. When I reached out to the Florida Tongue Tie Institute to discuss their clinical decision-making, I was informed that their documentation indicated the presence of "minor" tongue and lip ties during my son's initial appointment. According to them, I was referred to a therapist for conservative treatment and instructed to return if his symptoms didn't improve. However, I had no knowledge of any referral or documentation provided to a therapist. As a Pediatric Physical Therapist myself, I have a deep understanding of the importance of therapy and early intervention, and I am a strong advocate for it. In my experience, when a tongue or lip tie significantly interferes with feeding and causes reflux, a release procedure is often the most appropriate course of action. Given that I specifically sought an appointment with Dr. Maggie at the Florida Tongue Tie Institute to determine if my son had a tongue or lip tie (with the intention to intervene if necessary), I strongly object to their claims of documentation stating that we were informed about the presence of a tongue and lip tie during the appointment. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that I was referred to therapy and instructed to return if symptoms persisted, as I have no recollection of such recommendations. If I had been made aware of my son's tongue and lip ties during the initial visit, I would have advocated for a release procedure without hesitation. Alternatively, if medical intervention was not recommended, I would have sought a second opinion considering my background and expertise. As a therapist myself, I understand the significance of therapy and conservative management and would have promptly pursued it if recommended. I feel it's essential to provide full transparency regarding my experience with the Florida Tongue Tie Institute. During my visit, my husband and I left with the understanding that no tongue or lip ties were identified. We were provided a list of local therapists who could potentially address weak oral muscles, which we perceived as a casual suggestion rather than a definitive recommendation for therapy. The lack of clarity in their communication left us with the impression that weak oral muscles were the primary concern, rather than the presence of tongue and lip ties. Overall, I am deeply disappointed with the Florida Tongue Tie Institute's handling of my son's case. Their failure to accurately diagnose and inform us about his tongue and lip ties has caused unnecessary suffering, delayed treatment, and the potential for long-term consequences. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend their services, and I urge others to explore alternative options for tongue and lip tie evaluations and treatment."

My daughter had a posterior tongue tie with various symptoms including reflux and we decided to have had her tongue tie treated. "Dr. Davis is amazing!! My baby girl had an incomplete tongue tie revision done previously (elsewhere) and we were still having issues with weight gain and breastfeeding. Dr Davis revised her tongue and her lip and we’ve noticed great improvements! She was very informative (my husband said she needs her own show lol). We drove 2 hours one way for the procedure and Dr. Davis allowed us to do our follow up via Zoom. We are so happy with the care we received from the entire staff. I highly recommend Dr. Davis! She was extremely knowledgeable about lip/tongue ties and took the time to get to know us and our concerns, I never felt rushed and she explained everything very well.
