"They were hacked right before our closing. They said they had a system outage, but I looked online and found the real problem. They offered a small discount, which didn't come close to coving the interest we were paying on our new house that we had already purchased. No mention of credit protection. This caused our closing to be in jeopardy. Luckily we closed a week later, but it was very stressful, literally the last business afternoon of the calendar year, and this isn't the end of the story. They ended up sending the account to a small time company to finish up. This seemed like a great thing at first. That company didn't make the transfer when they said they would and ended up holding onto the money over a three day weekend. Then they really scared us when they still hadn't made the transfer and wouldn't answer the phone. They eventually called us back and I am supposed to see the money soon today. That part is not really First American's fault, but probably would not have happened if they were able to finish the job themselves. I could also blame the hackers for all of this, but it seems First American needs better internet security and a better way to handle such situations. Anyway, the whole thing was a giant, scary, stressful mess."
