West Area Adult School, now part of Traviss Technical College, is located at 604 South Central Avenue in Lakeland, Florida. Serving the western region of Polk County, including Lakeland, Kathleen, and Bartow, the school offers alternative educational opportunities for adults. With a main campus at Traviss Technical College and over 30 convenient off-site locations, West Area Adult School provides Adult Basic Education courses for entry into the GED® program. The GED® program, established in 1942, is universally recognized as the equivalent of a traditional high school diploma and has awarded up to 1,500 GED®s each year to graduating students. Courses are offered at a minimal charge of $30.00 per semester for Polk County residents, with day and evening classes available. Additionally, West Area Adult School offers a free pre-school program for full-time adult students with children ages 3 to 5. As an Authorized Pearson VUE Test Center, the school provides high-stakes computer-based certification and licensure exams for various industries.
