HCA Florida South Shore Hospital

"I give it two stars for the er dr I had Dr. Smith he deserved 5 stars and the nurse I had. They transferred me up stairs and Jesus I wanted to leave the hospital ASAP. I was 304 the male nurse was ok but they put me in a room with someone. That was mistake number one. The lady snores all day and night. Lord, I'm praying these ppl figure out whats wrong with me right now I feel like they will let me die up in here. They don't seem to give a damn about you up in here on the floor. I hope the doctors are better bc I'm bleeding internally and seem like they don't give a damn on this floor"

"My father was admitted last week on Thursday, February 1st because his left leg was swollen and had pain. The staff at HCA South Shore Hospital were amazing! After several tests, they finally figured out why his foot would swell up from time to time over the last year or so and why it was swollen the day he was admitted. They figured out a game plan to remove the excess fluid and get him back on a healthy track. Everyone was very sweet, attentive and caring to my dad. He felt at home and the food .... that was not your ordinary hospital food. It was gourmet style food. Kudos to the chef! My dad is a major foodie and took pictures of his food to send it to me and my sisters. I can't say enough about HCA South Shore hospital other than thank you, thank you, thank you! It was a relief to know that my dad was in good hands."

"My father had an operation on his back there. The staff was nice. The Doctors were nice but... They have no clue what is going on as far as scheduling. They came in the day before his procedure and informed us that the surgeon was going to be that evening to go over what he could expect with the procedure the following day and that they would be taking him down to surgery between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.. The surgeon never showed up nor did he call and say that he wasn't going to show up. The next morning we expected them to come between 8:00 and 10:00 as they said explained and they came in at 10:00 and told us they didn't know when to expect someone to be coming in to take him down. At that point they said the scheduling was out of their hands and it was totally up to the anesthesiologist, 10:00 came and went. 11:00 came and went 12:00 came and went. He finally went down around 1:00 30 minutes after they took him down I asked them what time he would be going into surgery and they said they had no clue. They only know when he's coming back. We were told that the surgeon was going to come in after surgery and talk to us. We never saw him. They told us that they were going to be coming the next day to fit him for a life vest. Those people were supposed to be there at 2 o'clock they never showed up. The only person that was on time was the insurance representative to make sure that he paid his part of the copay. And she came in an hour after he got out of surgery. The worst time to approach a patient for money."

"This was my first time at South Bay/HCA. The staff here is great. The housekeeping, nurses, respiratory therapist and doctors all played a tremendous role in greeting me back on my feet and I’m very grateful. I’d like to specifically name Jackie, Kimberly, Charmaine, Akuu and Shay for their care and compassion that aided me in my healing process. They made my visit to the hospital less overwhelming. I appreciate this HCA staff and thankful I was brought to this center for care."
