Our mission is to provide for the real and perceived safety of our citizens, reduce crime through vigilant investigation, facilitate safe and efficient traffic flow, and enhance the overall quality of life in our community.
Under the leadership of Chief Rick Hawthorne, who has been serving as Chief of Police since November 2016, the Gulf Breeze Police Department (GBPD) has achieved Excelsior Status, placing us in the top 10% of police departments in Florida. We were also the first law enforcement agency west of Tallahassee to be accredited, a testament to our commitment to excellence and service.
Gulf Breeze is consistently ranked as one of the safest places to raise a family in the United States. Our department consists of 26 dedicated officers serving approximately 6,000 residents. Despite being primarily a residential community near Pensacola, Gulf Breeze experiences significant traffic, with daily counts exceeding 55,000 and reaching up to 150,000 during special events on Pensacola Beach. To effectively manage this, we supplement our force with part-time officers and volunteer auxiliary officers.
