San Carlos Bay - Bunche Beach Preserve
San Carlos Bay - Bunche Beach Preserve is a 718-acre natural tidal wetlands area located on San Carlos Bay in Fort Myers, Florida. This park is a representation of "Old Florida" before the introduction of exotic plant species, showcasing a diverse ecosystem ranging from sandy beaches to Mangrove forests and salt flats. Visitors can enjoy viewing a wide variety of wildlife and capturing beautiful sunsets in this picturesque setting. The park was officially dedicated and named Bunche Beach in 1949 after Dr. Ralph Bunche, the first African American to win the Nobel Prize and a mediator for the United Nations. In 2001, all exotic vegetation was removed from the area, and additional lands were acquired in 2002, bringing the total acreage to 718 acres and renaming it to the San Carlos Bay - Bunche Beach Preserve.
