Fort Foster State Historic Site
Fort Foster State Historic Site is a fascinating park and tourist attraction located at 15402 U.S. 301 in Thonotosassa, Florida, United States. This site is a reproduction of a fort originally built in December 1836 during the Second Seminole War. The fort was used to defend the bridge crossing at the Hillsborough River and as a resupply point for soldiers in the field. Visitors can explore the fort on guided tours and special events, as it is not open for visitation on a daily basis. Living-history demonstrations are provided by park staff and re-enactors, giving visitors a glimpse into life at Fort Foster during the 1830s. Two annual events, Fort Foster Rendezvous in January and the Candlelight Experience in December, offer unique experiences for visitors.
