This trail features two tunnels, one under the I-295 highway and the other under Route 13. Please note that due to vandalism, the lights in these tunnels may not always be in operation, so it is recommended to approach with caution and bring a headlamp or bike light for extra visibility. Named after former Governor Jack A. Markell, this 5.5 mile trail connects the Wilmington Riverfront with the City of New Castle, completing a long-awaited connection between the two areas. The trail includes an off-road elevated boardwalk, paved pathways, and an on-road section through Historic New Castle, totaling 7.9 miles in length.
