The Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge, located at 1400 Delmarva Lane in Wilmington, Delaware, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction that is part of the DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC). Situated along the Christina River, this 212-acre freshwater tidal marsh is home to a variety of wildlife including American Bald Eagles, Wood Ducks, American Beavers, and more. Visitors can explore the refuge year-round, enjoying panoramic river and marsh views from the Visitor Center, strolling through the ornamental garden, and walking along the handicap-accessible pond loop. The refuge also provides access to the Markell bike/hike trail, a 5.5-mile-long path from Wilmington to New Castle. DEEC is dedicated to environmental education and community outreach, offering programs such as DelNature's RENEW initiative and participating in the Alliance for Watershed Education.
