About the Business
Welcome to the Long Beach Municipal Cemetery, a serene and historic resting place nestled at the corner of Willow Street and Orange Avenue in Signal Hill, California. Spanning 4.3 acres, this cemetery is not only a tranquil park but also a significant part of Long Beach's rich history. Established as early as 1901, it is the final resting place of notable figures such as William Erwin Willmore, the founder of Long Beach.
Operated and meticulously maintained by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, the cemetery offers a peaceful environment with well-kept grounds, including manual watering, tree maintenance, and careful grave management. The cemetery is steeped in history, originally part of the Rancho Los Cerritos and linked to the Bixby Ranch. Although no Bixby family members are interred here, the Bixby mausoleum remains a notable feature.
The Long Beach Municipal Cemetery is not only a place of remembrance but also a location for cultural engagement. It has served as a backdrop for film productions, including scenes from Mariah Carey's movie "Glitter." While the cemetery welcomes visitors eager to explore its historical significance, it remains closed and secure on Halloween night to ensure a respectful atmosphere.
For those interested in delving deeper into the stories of Long Beach's founders and pioneers, guided tours are offered on the last Saturday of October. Tours begin at 9 AM, with sessions running every 15 minutes until 12 PM. Please call ahead to confirm dates and times.
To learn more about the rich history of Long Beach and its residents, the Historical Society of Long Beach offers resources and programs for students, educators, and history enthusiasts. For inquiries, please contact the Historical Society at (562) 424-2220 or via email at ashleyfm@hslb.org.

Reviews
"Nice small cemetery with older historical Tombstones etc . People can pull up in thier cars here or walk around . Its smaller then next door but still cool and its got a hill with cool views of the area."
"People claim to have seen apparitions here at night. Peaceful place. No spooks to report here."
"This is just a beautiful, quaint and very peaceful place to lay beneath one of it's many trees for shade during any hot summer day. Although it's at the very busy corner of Willow and Orange very few people come and bother the dead."
"The cemetery looks like an old cemetery but very neat. Another period to reflect on life.. we are all going to end up in the earth someday"
"I only visited for a little while I walked around and seen some of the grave stones it was very interesting I could of spent the entire day there it was amazing to know these people were here on earth once and now gone. I just walked and read all the stones of people that once lived.."
