Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park is a museum and park located at 9980 Greenback Lane in Folsom, California, United States. This institution is a colorful part of Sacramento history, showcasing the commercial application of electricity in the late 19th century. Visitors can explore the vintage generators, control switchboard, and massive General Electric transformers that once powered the city of Sacramento. The park offers a glimpse into the past with its forebays and canal system that brought water from the dam to generate electricity. Summer and spring are warm, while fall and winter can be cool, so layered clothing is recommended. Special Event Permit applications should be submitted 45 days in advance, and Film Permits can be arranged through the California Film Commission. Volunteers are welcome to become docents and share the history of the Folsom Powerhouse with visitors. Visitors can reserve campsites and lodging up to six months in advance. The park is easily accessible by both Highway 50 and I-80, with multiple entrances available. The primary recreation season is in the spring and summer months, with high visitation from April to September. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions, as summers can be hot and dry, while winters can be cold with foggy conditions. The park also offers reservable group picnic sites at Granite Bay and Black Miners Bar, which can accommodate up to 100 and 50 people respectively. Reservations can be made in advance through the Folsom Sector Office.
