"Spent 3 nights in #47 with 3 kids. Great flat tent location. Semi close to the bathroom for those middle of the night trips. Beach access was best on trail 1 but VERY steep. Also, we wanted to boogie board, but learned this beach is better for walking, building sand huts, and rock hounding. Definitely will return, but had to figure out the campground because most of the trails are closed so we had to drive to day use for a daily beach trip. Also, the only thing the park sold was firewood so we had to drive to san clemente for ice. 4 stars only because we wanted to boogie board and could've used river shoes for all the rocks and walking."
"Considered Primitive camping but this is a hidden jewel. Been camping here since I was a kid. People will talk about freeway sounds or the trains... These can be background to what is a great place to relax and camp. What is old Pacific Coast Highway serves as mostly level spots for RV's and Trailers. Most sites have some dirt to pitch tents on. Staff is friendly and the bathrooms are maintained daily. There are three trails to the beach with Trail 6 being the longest. The bluffs can provide amazing views. Note: Watch out for the ants... Demetrious Earth (DE) is excellent at preventing their entry to your food storage. It is organic and non toxic."
"Other than two other campers above, a couple surfers and one other man walking his dog, we had the trails and the beach to ourselves. Trails were eroded from recent rains and small landslides but we were able to navigate well enough to get down to the beach and back out by two different trails."
"$45/night without hookups, about $80 with hookups. Pricey but it’s California. Restrooms are clean to use. We still need to pay $10 extra to dump. This is disappointing. Some people are weird, a lady peed outside right next to the restroom, where the red arrow is, in front of our camp. We were speechless. Cars are consistently passing by, if you stay in the RV, it would be fine, but tent would be loud. Overall It’s peaceful and pretty. You can SEE the ocean pretty easy but hard to get down there. Pretty sure we heard rattlesnakes in the bush when our cat approached. Squirrels and mice are around. Not windy in June. No bugs bother you. You get your own fire pit and table. I probably won’t come again, unless I can’t find campsite anywhere else."
"This place is great for surfing, camping, seasonal wildflower viewing, day trips and more. The beach looks amazing while nervously standing atop the crumbling bluffs and the bluffs are an aesthetic bonus while down on the beach. This place, like many beach locations, can get busy, so book or arrive early. The camp sites are perfect for couples or small groups. Note there is not much space between camp sites so be prepared to be respectful of your neighbors if you are camping over night. Or be prepared to get to know your neighbors pretty well if they are not respectful of the close proximity. Wood fires are ok. Bathrooms are water wise. Surfers are abundant. Get out there and enjoy!"
