Explore the Natural Wonders
Take a moment to hike down the steep trail to a secluded pocket beach, where you can unwind on the soft sand. A Glimpse into History
Hearn Gulch holds a significant place in history. Known as Saunders Landing between 1877 and 1895, it served as a doghole port for shipping redwood lumber from the nearby Schooner Gulch. Today, while little evidence of its timber era remains, the area stands as a testament to nature's resilience and beauty.
Preserving Natural Beauty
Managed by the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy (RCLC), Hearn Gulch spans nearly six acres of pristine beach and bluff, acquired with the support of the California State Coastal Conservancy and generous donors. The RCLC is committed to preserving this natural treasure for generations to come.
Visitor Information
Please note that there are no facilities at Hearn Gulch. Visitors are encouraged to use restrooms before arriving and bring their own drinking water and bags to pack out trash or dog waste. Help us keep this area clean and natural. Fires and overnight camping are not permitted.
Exercise caution when visiting, as sensitive habitats and unstable bluff edges require careful navigation. The path to the beach is steep and can be affected by storms, so use it at your own risk.

"Beautiful beach with a great view from above and water access below."
"We pass through on our way to Gualala for Calzones. Then, we hit Fort Bragg and wrap back to SF annually for our Thanksgiving or in July for my husband's bday drive! ALWAYS magical, beautiful, and life affirming in every way. ❤️ PCH HWY1 baby!"
"Beautiful views. Dogs on leash welcome. If you walk to bottom it's steep but there's a rope handle to assist."
"Beautiful spot. Walked down to the beach to take it all in. The path isn't long but it's a bit steep and can be muddy and slippery."
"What a lovely place to see the coastal view and the sunset."
