Wheeler Manor
Wheeler Manor, located at 651 West 6th Street in Gilroy, California, is a historic institution that was originally built as a hospital in 1929 by renowned California architect William Weeks. This Mediterranean-style building was equipped with nurse call buttons in patient rooms, making it a state-of-the-art facility at the time. Though it ceased hospital operations in 1989, Wheeler Manor has been converted into affordable housing for seniors. In addition to the original building, Wheeler Manor also features a newer senior housing complex known as Building B, which was added in 1993. A recent renovation in 2018 preserved many historical elements of the original hospital, including the foundation, walls, roof, windows, entrance, and tile inlay.
