Kristina my therapist brought me from metaphorical hell and back providing top tier grade A trauma and substance abuse therapy. I will forever be indebted to the superior help she has provided me giving me a new outlook and a chance at a happy fruitful life being clean and sober. "I had 13 years of oxy use, the 80s and then 30s. Fentanyl came around as early in NH/Massachusetts in 2013. In 2014 you were no longer getting H cut with fent but fent with some cutting agent. It was beyond strong. I battled and through different rehabs got off. I kept having weight loss and stomach/gut issues. I went to Akua a new man. I said WENT. I told them I was now celiacs and couldn’t have gluten and don’t want to go to rehab where people gain weight and I keep losing it. I arrived and saw red flags immediately which the staff told us all about. They were just starting out and the first grocery order (they told me they GUARANTEED me safe and healthy diet/food)… well they ordered it somewhere on a Friday and was supposed to come Saturday. Never came. No one put anyone in charge of knowing. I was put in the place of asking different people I was meeting as employees, and neither of them had been told about my gut issues or the grocery order. After finding the guy on Monday, who was supposedly all about helping me he found out something happened and they just weren’t gonna come so he put a brand new order in which was gonna take another two days…. They brought me down to a local supermarket Richmond California all the enough even back then there was plenty of gluten-free options at the right stores. Instead, I was taken to a low class grocery store that had an almost nothing I could eat. I got pumpkin seeds, milk, fruits and veggies and some tortilla chips. To last me days. Everyone else was given sweets, and they handed them cigarettes like candy. They know people in rehab at choir some kind of quick pick me up…. All in all, I tried to call my father and tell him I kept losing weight because I had lost 13 pounds since being there for two weeks. I had brought protein powder. Also I was making shakes to try to keep the way on but my gut was a mess. The man that cooks dinner even admitted once that he didn’t know if one of the sauces he used gluten in it it was serving me separate food to try to be nice, but clearly didn’t understand cross-contamination just yet. I got hounded by one of the guys that was actually pretty cool working for them trying to downplay my stomach issues and telling me about his but mine have been going on for 13 years and when your stomach has had inflammation that long and you’re getting off opiates it’s pretty bad. Really bad actually. Essentially, they scuffed off my problems as me being over dramatic or something and “not having it in me to quit the subs”… The final straw was when they took me to the beach with everyone else first day I was off of suboxone. Every other place gave me a week or so to balance out while attending classes with them. The reason? They admitted for 2 weeks a bus was down or something BUT if I didn’t go NO-ONE ELSE could and they were SURFING! Sounded freaking awesome and I would have pushed myself to join in but I was SO SICK, oh, AND they were JUST HAPPENED to forget the comfort meds that day we get at noon! How convenient! This would have atleast helped. Last straw I asked to just call home and talk to my dad. They acted odd and first called him and were telling him all these things I thought was insanely wrong. It just was. He gave me the phone and told me to say something so I said “dad this guy does t want me to tell you what I feel is going on here”. Dude grabs the phone and they LICK ME OUT TO THE CURB. I didn’t relapse. I lost tons of weight. I didn’t get correct care. It was heartbreaking. I left and went back home and stayed on low dose subs, hit the gym, gained muscle back and got an amazing job. Except now I gotta balance quitting subs with all this stuff life throws at you. I’m doing it but this place was shameful. You get HREAT PEOPLE and then people in it to tell you how to do things and not teach you. The man running my house was a very irresponsible person and the house across the street was LEGIT a meth den. The man owned a shed on the property and offered me meth, I said no. But Akua did this. Shameful…"

"Its unfortunate to write a negative review, but feel I must share. The people and staff were friendly and kind. I had a small relapse while there, which is my responsibility, its also common for people in recovery. Upon testing positive for a small amount of alcohol I was discharged immediately from the sober living house leaving me homeless and was just dropped off at a library to figure things out. That was a horrible experience because I was not equipped or prepared for such and abrupt change. There was no follow up in regard to my care or any contact to see if I was ok. I feel this falls short of caring for people with addiction especially ones trying to get help."

"Can't make a phone call without someone listening in the room. If they think you are too emotional they will end the call! Pretty lame considering most people are emotional in rehab. Also they will read all your outgoing mail. The 3 letters I had sent and was supposedly approved were never received. .It honestly felt like jail. ( in jail you at least get visitors)They have a wave for logo but never went to the beach. Way too strict. Sarah is a cool counselor and her twin but alot of staff on power trip. I would look elsewhere for treatment.This place does not have respect for privacy."
